A pre-trial conference is scheduled for 2 July 2024 in the Perth Industrial Magistrates Court, regarding a suit by Margaret Thomas against Retirees WA. It is understood that she is suing Retirees WA for wrongful dismissal after being stood down as CEO/CFO earlier this year. Additional details will be updated here as they are made available. July 2024 Update: The RWA Board has made a statement regarding this suit in the Bi-Annual Members Newsletter: “Margaret Thomas left her position with Retirees WA as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer on the expiry of her Services Agreement on 28 February 2024. RWA is presently defending proceedings by Ms Thomas in the Industrial Magistrates Court, in which she is claiming long service leave.” Note: Based on Ms. Thomas’ employment with RWA as Finance Officer in 2004, and the long-service leave entitlements under WA legislation, the most Ms. Thomas can attempt to claim is 18 weeks. October 2024 Update: At the 2024 Retirees WA Annual General Meeting, it was advised Margaret Thomas has withdrawn the claim. |
